What type of pot is this?

I want to change the volume pot in my custom-built Tele for something with a nicer taper - at the moment, I get a huge drop from 10 to 8, & not much after this. I have Crazyparts pots in my LP & find them superb, so that's what I'll be getting for this.

I figured I might change the tone pot, too, while I'm at it, although it's probably not necessary, as I've no issue with it.

However, this is the tone pot currently installed - does anyone have any idea what it is?

& does the tone pot (& cap, for that matter) contribute to the issue I'm having with the volume control?

It's made by CTS, as is the volume pot but other than that, I'd need to see what is stamped into the casing.

    Cheers for the reply.

Here's another pic I took, if that helps.

I was going to say "Ask DaLefty, he's got shoe boxes full of all the differing variants.", then realised you were talking about potentiometers.

It's a 250K pot from AllParts, made in week 48 of 2013 by the look of it.

The last two digits of the part number are 85 but all AllParts 250K CTS pots end in 85.

We'd need to see the rest, or measure it with an ohmmeter.

If you want a progressive taper on the volume, get a linear 250K pot, AllParts EP-4985-000

If the OP requires any knobs for his newly acquired pots, DaLefty is almost certainly your man....

I reckon it's not the sort of pot @dalefty likes.

@GuitarMonkey : Thanks for your advice.

I was expecting both volume & tone pots to be the same - 250k linear - & was wondering why the tone pot looks as it does.

I guess I don't need to worry about it as its taper is fine, but does the tone pot & cap affect the volume pot in any way?

If not, I'll just replace the volume pot.

If the tone pot works well, it is likely audio taper. The volume pot probably is too, judging by what you say.

The tone pot will not affect the action of the volume pot in any significant way.
