Gibson LP R57 Gold Top VOS.

What's Hot

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum so let me know if this is ok or not.
I have a Gibson LP R57 Gold Top VOS 1996 model for sale.
An absolutely gorgeous Custom shop example with a Mahogany back complete with the original hard case.
This was re strung and set up late last year by a my local Guitar shop.
Looking for around £1800 which is cheap considering a new one will cost well over £3000.

Thanks.

It's fine but you put it in the wrong place, also, pics will help.

Also it's not a VOS model if it was made in 1996, not that makes much difference.

Thanks for the feedback. I bought this from a shop last year but it did not come with documentation so I emailed Gibson with some pics and the serial number. Gibson confirmed this as a 1996 Custom Shop model but did not say anything about VOS.
I've just emailed them on this as I would like to know if the original ad was incorrect !

The VOS (vintage original spec) finish was introduced around 2007.

Yours is probably nicer than that.

Also Gibson did not issue COAs (certificates of authenticity) in 1996.

Guitarmonkey is correct about when it was introduced. It's not big deal, all they did was stopped doing the final buffing stage to the finish and out some crap on the metal parts to try make it look old. I actually prefer the non VOS models myself.

It's interesting, when I bought this I didn't like the fact the bridge and pick ups looked tarnished and grubby so I was going to clean & polish until I found out that the VOS meant it had been aged by Custom Shop, or so I thought.
This Guitar look old or like it's been aged. There is also some fine checking or cracking in the lacquer near the controls which I believe is quite common.

That's just a result of it being nearly 20 years old, not because it was aged from new.
The serial number will be the same as a 2006 though so you never know!
Quickest way to check is either put a pic up here for us to see, or you can check certain features which are a giveaway of the year.
Have the inlays got rounded corners or do the look very sharp and well fitted?
