Pickup volume question

My LP is much louder on the neck pickup rather than the bridge which I am told is a bit arse about face. I've screwed the neck right down and raised the bridge right up in the interests of trying to get a balance but to no avail. Any thoughts? 57s in both - classic and classic plus.

It is customary to have the plus in the bridge for this reason but physics determines there is more energy in the string away from the ends. There are independent volumes for each pickup!
Also right up under the string at the bridge may not be the loudest position. Sinking the neck PU into the surround works well enough, some modern surrounds are quite tall.
