Wow. Quite possibly the guitar he wrote a lot of the Beatles' mid-period stuff on, which has to push the collector value through the roof.

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

Saw that. The story of where it's been would be fascinating. If it was 'lost' at a gig, who found it and lays claim to ownership? I know the laws are different in many of the states so it may be time allows title to pass.

    Certainly an iconic guitar.

It also may be the guitar that was used for probably the first recorded example of deliberate feedback, the intro to 'I Feel Fine', which was one of these through an AC30, not an electric guitar. It's probably impossible to know for sure whether it was Lennon's or Harrison's one though, since apparently they used them interchangeably in the studio no matter who was playing.

I really like J160Es anyway, and if I win the lottery in the next short while I'd be very interested in this.

    There's some history there.

Is it the one in this great pic?

One of them. According to the Beatles Gear book they lost track of "whose was whose" at some point. I suspect they probably didn't care much.

    Ah right.

Whichever one it was to own something that iconic would be wonderful.

    Just need the money.

I wonder how much it will fetch?

Would be interested to see how they established provenance.

I would guess by the unique patterns in the pickguard 'tortoiseshell'. There will be clear enough pics of Lennon playing it to see the exact shapes and positions of the pale flecks, and there's no way of duplicating that since every piece is different.

Hendrix's lost Flying V was conclusively identified by the patterns in the fingerboard inlays even when the whole guitar had been refinished.

What do we think? A million dollars? It's got to be the single most valuable acoustic in history, if the provenance is solid.

Probably the guitar In My Life was written on...

The greatest song ever written by a 25 year old IMHO.

I recently went to The Beatles Story in Liverpool and found it incredibly moving - the glasses Lennon wore when recording Imagine, Harrison's first guitar, McCartney's Carnaby Street jacket - objects touched by great people....

Reputedly, all Lennon's other guitars, including the Casino he stripped are in the Dakota Building with Yoko.

If this is genuine - what a find.

if I remember the story on the V correctly it had a distinctive stripe through the 5th?? fret inlay, and also had traces of paint under the pickguard, but that is less conclusive evidence.

I guess either piece of evidence along would have been dismissed, but when you start seeing 2 or 3  all leading to the same conclusion... i guess the nut had also been replaced or butchered as it had been put back to righty use too
