NFOOOGD or "New finish on old offset guitar day!"

What's Hot

So it is finally done.

1970 Jazzmaster (with a B&B '70 Strat neck?)

In my version of an aged LPB.

Some may say its is more a Lake 'Flacid' Blue or possibly green?

Whatever. I like it and it is how I imagined it would be. The finish is thin as hell as so it should take on its own course of ageing gracefully from now on. No fake lumps and bumps for this old workhorse.

Looks like Ocean Turquoise to me, which is a much better choice than LPB to go with the red tortoise guard :).

    Very, very nice.

Highly unusual to see a B&B Strat neck, let alone on a Jazzmaster - it's usually the other way round, JM necks getting converted to make fake old Strat necks...

I figured LPB would go green after 45 years. So I had to tint it a bit.

I was torn between Blue and Green anyway. So it all worked out pretty well in the end. The neck is odd as hell. Stamps on neck and decal say Strat, yet it they never made any B&B necks that late to my knowledge.

    So its a mongrel.

No, it doesn't really - LPB was one of the acrylic colours, not nitro. They don't yellow anywhere near as much - originals look almost as blue as when they were made, even now.

Could be a special order. Either way the B&B looks brilliant on that guitar, whereas I never think it does on a Strat.

I thought the top coat would yellow.

Either way I'm happy with the result. Could do with some sun as the pics make it look a little anaemic. Will take some better pics when the weather brightens up.

From the amount of evidence of it greening on OSG I would agree.

Its looking great now mate and kudos for refinishing it yourself. All you need is a mastery now :-P
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'm quite enjoying spraying nitro now. So will have to find something else to build soon.

I have too many guitars as it is though.
