Hmmm. Edited as I clearly got the wrong end of the stick. :)

It's a hollow body is it not? Can't put ferrules in fresh air I guess...

I'd guess the ferrules would stress the wood too much - it being much thinner than the inch plus of a solid body.

That design, on the other hand, spreads the force over a wider area making it easier for the wood to bear.

It's also because the bar is grounded in order to use the strings as a shield for the magnetic pickup, as they are on a normal electric by grounding the bridge - but this guitar doesn't have a metal bridge. To do that with ferrules they would need to ground them all individually, which would be a faff.

A much bigger bodge is the horrible rosewood bridgeplate on the front which appears to be nothing more than a cover for the bridge pickup hole so they can use a standard body. At least I assume that's what it's for and not a misguided attempt to make it look more like a normal Tele.

indeed.   I quite like the solid block approach.  I have even built some guitars with a glued in ebony block so that no ferrules were needed at all

The earlier HMT Tele with a proper acoustic bridge and a Lace Sensor is a really good-sounding guitar - the best-sounding 'solid acoustic' I've played. I would still own mine if it wasn't for the horrible wide-thin jumbo-fretted early 90s neck. (Which couldn't easily be changed due to the offset neck joint.)
