Now I know that his is a long shot/pretty much total waste of time but I was just wondering if anyone has a Gartone Bluesman 18w amp that they'd be interested in selling or trading - option of a choice between 2 hi end boutique amps.

I understand that these are like rocking horse shite - I only know of 2 that are out in the world (I'm sure there are many more though) - but just checking before I go ahead and order my own :-)

You might be waiting for one to be built -I spoke to Martin early in the year and he said he was maxed out work-wise but good luck.

@pmg Yes, I'm well aware I'd be better off trying to knit fog than trying to find one second hand...so it's looking like it might be an order job. Of the two Bluesman's I've tried, both have been stellar. It's an itch I've got to scratch, along with a mid 00's SG Standard and then I've got everything I've lusted after....for the time being at least! :-)

    @miserneil. A mid 00's SG standard like this? http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag221/paulgregson/IMG_0920_zpsukrgggli.jpg

I have a Gartone Bluesman, but I wouldn't describe it as an 18w, that conjures up a mini bluesbreaker in my mind.

Mine is a 5E3 based design, single 12 in tweed. Of all the 5E3's I've had, inc an original 59, 2 Clarks, a Flynn and my own homebrew, this is by far the best of the bunch.

Not for sale at the mo, but you never know......

I would say that finding one secondhand is going to be hard, you're going to have to be very patient and ready to jump when one crosses your path.

Richard Henry has one, he might be persuaded to sell it, but I know he really likes that one too.

    Good luck,
    Rob.

@ossyrocks Thanks Rob, yes, I'm in no doubt they are like rocking horse s*ite second hand, Rich Henry's amp was the first one I tried and I was knocked out by it. He told me it was an amp for life so I doubt he's thinking of moving it anytime soon!

I love my Lazy J but I've just got a Gartone itch that needs scratching. Let me know if you ever think about moving yours on....got a lovely Matchless that'd suit you! - or good old fashioned pound notes ;-)

Neil, I'll be talking to Rich later on today, do you want me to give him a nudge that you're still interested?

fwiw I played Mick Taylors 'Burst through that amp, and like your good self was knocked out by it.

@ourmaninthenorth Thanks for the offer but Rich won't sell that amp....he'd want more than retail anyway! ;-)

I reckon you're best off putting an order in, it'll be worth the wait most definitely :)

Oooph, I bet that was a nice day ! I've still to see that one in the flesh. I'll have to make do with Mick Ralph's '58 and a couple belonging to Joe B this year.

    Cheers!

@ozzyrocks was the Mick Ralphs guitar the TV junior RH had? I'm a big Ralphs fan and bought his old R8 that Rich had a few years ago.

It was a real Thrill Rob, my first ever 'Burst. Couple of months later..Greeny... mind blowing experiences, as you already know.

@miserneil - The Ralph's guitar Rob is refering to is a vintage 1958 Les Paul, owned by a mutual friend of Rob and I.

@ourmaninthenorth wow, very cool! I believe an ex. Ralphs Esquire resides somewhere in the north too, which was the main guitar used on my 2 favourite albums of all time....now if I could get the crindles together for that....

That esquire used on can't get enough in open c tuning , he still has One 50s and there is another that lives not to far away that he used to own :-)

@spenietele Yes, Spencer it's the Esquire used on the first Bad Co record and the Mott album when he was in Mott the Hoople. It's a '54 blackguard Esquire with a humbucker route (now filled) in the middle/bridge position. He has another 50's Esquire that he uses now but I don't think it was the guitar used for these albums. Which guitar do you know of?

This is the one i'm talking about:

So if anyone knows of where this guitar currently resides, I'd be very interested in talking to them.

Phil at Vintage & Modern Guitars has another of Micks old Esquires, a Sunburst one. I think Mick was one of the original GAS afflicted! He has had quite a collection of the years, like rats, you're never far away from an ex.Mick Ralphs guitar!! ;-)

Here's a pic: Left to right, Mick Ralph's '58, Joe B's '60 "The Runt" and Joe B's '59 "Carmelita". Those guitars through the rig behind, cranked, was something to behold.

Trying a few 'Bursts is exhilarating but it is also dangerous.

I love Historics but clearly they are Pretend Vintage Guitars and once you have decided that you must have Old Wood there is no turning back!
