NGD: Les Paul (yawn!)

What's Hot

After watching the Bernie Marsden video I could no longer resist the call of the Paul.

There'd been a 2014 traditional in my local shop for ages so I finally went in to try it last weekend and ... they'd sold it two days before!

But they were able to get a 2014 standard in for me, which I got to try this morning and ... ended up taking home. And here it is:

Thanks for the comments. I put the "yawn" in the title, because it seemed to me it was just another les paul, special to me because it's mine, but not particularly special for anyone else. But actually it is quite a pretty one!

And all the push-pull options suit me perfectly - they are exactly what I would have wanted to put in an LP, and with a very sensible set-up - if you don't pull any of them, you just get the standard 4-way layout with no quirks or confusion,

Indeed, it says etune. That's the only aesthetically jarring note. Fortunately it doesn't have the Les Paulioo logo, nor the hologram.

I played a 2015 last week with the wide neck and the modern robot tuners. I didn't get on with the neck personally, and the tuners seemed impossible - it took 3 guys in the shop and ten minutes of messing around just to get it in tune at all, and then it didn't stay in tune for long.

But this one seems to work ok. If the tuning drifts at all, it's just one press of the "on" button, a few seconds of strumming while the tuners go whirr, and then it's all set. I was half expecting to have to take the etune off and replace it with proper tuners, but so far, it's looking like I won't have to.
