Newbish guitar hanger question

I'm about to gut the music room and completely redecorate/carpet etc... and I want to hang all of the guitars on the wall.

The walls in the house aren't great, and there are only 3 studs on the main wall where I want them hanging.  I was going to use a piece of wood across the studs, then put all the hangers on to that piece of wood (like the image below).  Is there anything I need to consider? Type of wood/thickness etc? Obviously the last thing I want is to all my guitars to come crashing down

Wood screwed where the studs are with some no nails along the back to help would do it. Better still use studs for fixing points and use some metal plaster board plugs where the studs aren't and some no nails also.
