Just had a bit of a shock with the last couple of month's landline bills.  The vast majority of the cost is Mrs Fab yakking to her sister (local call) on her landline and (grrr....) her mobile.

I need to get on a different package (Orange are my landline provider), and was wondering what cheap (or free) options are there around for making local calls ?  Is Skype free ?

    500 Mins, but she only ever uses less than half of that.  The problem however is that where we live, mobile phone signals waft in and out on the breeze.  I get absolutely nothing at all on Orange - she's on Tesco (O2) and can just about make a call if she talks with the phone pressed between her ear and the living room window..... just.

    Tell her and her sister to stop being silly and just use Skype. Or, since they're local to each other, actually go round and talk to her.

    skype isnt free to "normal" non-skype devices tho is it ?  and isnt  VOIP on mobiles a bit crap unless you're in the middle of a big urban area with nice big fuckoff masts ?

    Help me with this Skype thing....  My Missus has a Nokia N8, her sister a HTC Wildfire...  Skype apps are available for both phones.  Does that mean they could talk over Skype, mobile to mobile (as long as they were both in WiFi areas) ?

    You'll need to check if Skype is available for those phones. I'm pretty sure from an Android point of view that the Wildfire was too slow to run Skype?

    There are lots of providers who offer free evening and weekend calls. Primus do it for £6.99 a month including line rental, if you can take a punt on an unknown.
