Tokai's are great and its a lovely looking guitar & I'm sure it's a superb player too. My only thought was the price & I just wondered if £1650 was achievable only because it's well into genuine Gibson Les Paul territory many of which (standards) are going for £1300-£1700?
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

TBH, i'm not an oracle on specific Tokai models, but I do know many of the early ones are now going for more than a Gibson LP Standard of modern design. I would not be at all surprised if this lovely was up there in that bracket.

Wouldn't a MIJ Tokai of this quality piss all over a genuine Gibson from the same year..?

I'm no expert, but I rarely hear good things about Norlin era Les Pauls and hear nothing good things about the MIJ stuff.

Don't confuse this with a regular modern Tokai. That's not a flame maple veneer.

It's obviously hard for me to weigh in with an objective opinion... but I think this is actually pretty good value for money. The Gibson vs MIJ thing is almost moot at this point - just look at their unjustified price hikes and have a think about how important that name on the headstock really is.

Essentially these need to be compared to gibson historics not standards.
