The storm has taken my phone line down.... I have no dial tone and a lot of crackling and hissing... but, amazingly, my router has managed to hang on at between half a meg and 2Mb (usually solid 8) - but it's flaky as hell.  My internets is probably relying on a singly strand of copper being blown about outside up to the pole....  Oh noes......  it could go at any m.. ^%%Gyytg*8***((u ((96%())))

The crackling and hissing could be coming from the laminate flooring if the dogs pissed on it, again!  :D

It reminds me of when they lose radio contact with a spaceship or Flight 19.

Well, it looks as though your internet is fixed. BT just need to remove the knot in the wire that's making all your text look like a load of rubbish, and we'll be back to normal!

Actually, I'm wondering who is going to come out to fix it since I switched the line rental over to Orange.  They don't have their own cabling engineers as far as I know, so I suspect it might actually be a BT person, subcontracted.

Talking of comms - I'm looking forward to my mobile contract expiring in a couple of months, as I need to move away from Orange.  They're been cheap and the internet's been fine, but...  there's no pigging mobile signal near me and their landline charges are too high.

    Oh... BzzZzz(8&ttt....  (nearly forgot).

I guess if it's an overhead line to your gaff, then it's owned by BT, as they seem to own all that stuff. I think that all the companies that offer packages still have to rent the fixed lines from BT.

As for cellphone signals, it's the same old story: The most populated areas get the best service, and as you're in the back of beyond, it'll probably be shite.

I've been a-googlin' (as you do) and have discovered a cunning plan to circumvent the networks' lies with regard to their coverage maps.
I have ordered a free SIM card from each of the remaining three networks - Vodafone, Three and O2.  My phone is already unlocked and rooted etc etc, so I shall just fit each sim card to my phone and see which one gets me a working signal in the house, then, come contract renewal time, I will move to them.  Simples !
