Yahoo just locked my account - what could have caused it?

Just went to log in to my email and Yahoo gave me a message that they had detected 'unusual activity' on my account. What sort of activity would trigger such a notice? Has someone hacked in?

I changed all my passwords on Ebay/Paypal just as a precaution. In all fairness to Yahoo, they also detached all linked accounts to isolate everything.

I went into my recent activity to see if someone had logged in from elsewhere and there was nothing.

I got a similar message recently that was actually spam, from an email that was almost-but-not-quite "@yahoo.com". I'd double check that first if I were you, then go direct to yahoo.com (ie not via any email links) and change your password just in case.

You can get this message from yahoo if repeated unsuccessful attempts are made to log into the account.

It usually mean the MI5/CIA have decided you are a terrorist.  It happened to a friend of mine.  Don't worry, when they come for you you will have plenty of time to explain.
