scuse the heavily cropped pic, grabbed a torch and my camera which had 135mm lens attached... high up in a tree way down the bottom of our fairly long garden is this noisy beggar,,

  • Nice. I'd love to have a magnificent creature like that come to honour my garden.

  • We are quite lucky here, robins, tits and finches aplenty... Woodpeckers and have even had a pheasant.. Never had an owl tho that I have been able to pick out and take a pic.

Plenty of owls where I live ... they are noisy buggers, especially when there's a full moon. Great pics ...

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

the night we moved in there was an owl hooting in the churchyard next door, was nice at the time. What's not so nice is when you have one hooting away in the tree outside the bedroom window at 3 in the morning.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

  • The calls are quite interesting - mine hoots at me, and as daft as it sounds if i imitate the call back and she'll always respond - bit of a party trick when anyone comes around!:)
Best thing is though, at night if theres anyone around outside she does this high pitch "bark" which is very similar to a fox or small dog to warn.

  • I don't think an owl or any other creature would stop me from sleeping. It's man-made noise that I find horribly intrusive.

  • She's in the middle of calling there, hence here feathers being all fluffed up around her throat.

  • she looks magnificent, but I bet she'd have your finger off as soon as look at you

  • Well, she's quite tame as shes captive bred and so likes to be stroked on her head and under the beak but when shes had enough the talons flex and you know shes had enough.

  • ah yes, if you know her well you can risk it. I wouldn't ;)

  • Well, you have to respect them, they're quite lazy birds though.

Amazing, it must take a lot of time and effort keeping her happy!

  • Not really tbh, she's a bit of a showoff at times but as long as they're fed, water changed as they like baths and cleaned out they're really no trouble.
