Having just had my 'dropline' replaced from the pole... taking a more direct route, with new cable, my internet is now a solid 7.12Mbps - which, for a Saturday afternoon is amazing!  Also, further to my previous rant about BT delaying the upgrade to ADSL2 by a whole year, I've just discovered they've brought it forward again to a fortnight this Friday !!  In theory, I should get somewhere near the maximum 24Mb as I'm less than 1Km from the exchange.

My misery at the increase in the gas & leccy direct debit has now been replaced with the joy of internet speed !!

Now, I'm off to make a beef casserole to celebrate !!

Are you 'out of area' zone ?? What service gives you the 24 ?

I had my power off this morning so just powered up & checked by net.. 75 down 18 up.... & that's BT pole driven

Er... 75 down 18 up ?  That's not BT pole mate.... not in million years !  Unless you're getting fibre from a pole !

ADSL Max gives me the 'up to 8Mb' (of which 7.15 is pretty much the max).

ADSL2 will give me the 'up to 24Mb'.

Yup that will be FTTC speeds. (Fibre to the cabinet). Only the last leg from the street cabinet is done in copper.

Of course....  my definition of 'BT Pole' is copper all the way to the exchange, but I'd forgotten about FTTC - mainly because I HAVEN'T F**KING GOT IT !!

Been playing games using a team speak server hosted by a friend of a friend and there's a swede there who is getting "slow" Swedish internets - just 100mb down. Seems the advantage of having a population comprised of 12 people and some seals is that wiring up the country with super fast fiber cost 50p so almost everyone is thrumming along like digital ninjas ...

Plus it's freezing cold there, so the processors work quicker.

60Mb will become 100Mb

Cool! I'm not quite sure that I need it though. This time last year I was on 50mb iirc and it was fine then; they just keep banging it up. Apart from showing off on forums there's very little point to it all - streaming HD stuff still buffers from time to time as the bottleneck is usually server-side I guess. Or contention ratios perhaps. Oh well.
