My office is moving and we are buying new office furniture.
I'd like something a bit more interesting than the grey cube farm shite, but anything that isn't horribly Dilbert like seems to be viscously expensive.

Anyone know of any office furniture suppliers that do stuff that looks cool, but isn't horrificallyexpensive?

Ikea are on the list though people have suggested their stuff isn't that well made.

some of it is rubbish, some of it is bullet proof, same as the rest of their stuff. All their chairs are rubbish, in fact I think all their lounge chairs are rubbish too, the big office desks are very solid, and are height-adjustable - great if you are tall, I bought 2, I've not seen better-looking open-plan desks in any office I've visited basically. It is hard to find places that stock stuff that doesn't look plastic.

I rate Ikea stuff pretty highly. It's definitely better than a lot of DIY furniture, and as long as you cut through all the Swedish "living in a shoebox" display crap, then it's not bad. Better than MFI, too! We've had a couple of their leather sofas for 14 years, and they're just getting shagged out now.

Depends on your taste but try second hand business furniture stores. The current vogue  for IKEA style crap means companies are dumping stuff - you can pick-up solid oak desks for peanuts from second hand business furniture stores. I'd start second hand anyway given the number of firms that have gone bust. There's an excellent outlet near me that got me up and running when I started my first business. Even got a couple of leather sofas.

Put in Sit/Stand desks which allow you to raise the desk up so that people can spend all day (or part of it) standing up.
Better for the back and better for overall health.

There are loads of companies doing them including: http://www.posturite.co.uk/desks-furniture.html

When my Quicklok desk finally meets its maker I'll be putting in a sit stand in the studio too.

Or I'll put a sofa in  and control the computer via an iPad app.

I like the idea of a standing desk but those manually adjustable desks look overpriced for what they are, electric ones are just too expensive.

Next time I'm near Ikea, I'm going to get the bits for a cheap DIY version...

Also those Lack tables are good for mounting 19" rack gear!

Isn't that just a not-so-subtle ploy to stop you going to sleep at work?
