sad story - I remember a bandmate quitting and threatening to thump a couple of us next time he saw us, but nothing like this fortunately.

    It is tragic.  A band can become a very close and passionate group - a bit like a marriage, so it doesn't surprise me that something this unfortunate can happen.  No winners in this kind of situation.
