my all time music hero *sigh*

74 on Jan the 4th, the day after me :) I have his new album in my xmas stocking

I think this fella is going to be a lot like stephane grappelli insomuch as they still have the ability to tear the place up well into their 70s

below is two pics from different decades

That gets a LOL.  I did actually laugh out loud.

In the headphones picture he looks like Dermot Murnaghan.

  • Joking aside, I'd have to agree.

I bought Devotion as a youngster purely because it had a cool cover...

    ...and was mindblown.

Swiftly bought a load of Mahavishnu stuff and that was that, big fan. Still remember how much Between Nothingness and Eternity, Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire just melted my brain.

Seen him live a few times, always a treat.

I love John McLaughlin's music and playing. Needs to lay of the chorus a bit more though.

Some stuff I really like, some I really don't. My fave album so far is live at the royal festival hall

the way McLaughlin plays over and through the rhythm is really quite something and when he decides tae stop playin' and leave some space :) bloody hell, he is a master at that too.

this piece takes 2:40 tae get going but stick with it and watch out for Cooper the percussionist

PLAY AS LOUD AS YOU CAN!!

Mine too, although Birds of Fire runs it close. I was at the RFH gig, it was a phenomenal night, pity they didn't film it too. Trilok Gurtu is an incredible percussionist, to watch as well as listen to.
