Wheeler Dealers?

What's Hot

Anyone like this Programme?

I watch very little Telly and I'm not an all out Petrolhead, but I love this programme. It must be that I like watching someone who is extremely good at doing something, which Edd China obviously is.

I do like to see some classic cars though and the way they are restored so well.

The only daft side to the whole concept though is that in real life the Garage Labour Bill from Edd alone would be astronomical and there would be no "Profit".

Still a good bit of telly though.

I think the Citreon DS, Escort MK1 and Cadillac Coupe De Ville are among my Favourites, though I've seen many other good uns.

  • I love it. I feel inspired to do my own repairs and restorations. I know he's got all the tools and facilities and experience, but some of the stuff is pretty easy.....in essence.

I watched a Porsche Boxster S episode the other day. They bought it for £1k with a knackered tiptronic gearbox, but Edd fixed it for £200 and so they splashed the cash on some nice refurbishments.

It's a nice concept and I like Ed China but the other twat, Mike is it?, really annoys me.

  • I have always had zero interest in cars but I find this programme strangely fascinating. I like seeing things taken apart, fixed and put back together. Engineering, I suppose.

  • Great show but I go through phases of watching it flat out then needing a break from it.
    Seemed like a good idea.....

I'd like to see the bits hidden from the camera. Where Edd rings the main dealer to learn how to do 'X' or Mike talks to the trade counter parts folk who are often quite knowledgeable. Folks like @Mike_l pass trade secrets around and are real enablers.

That said many of the jobs are not that difficult once you have diagnosed the problem and got the parts.

Edd China used to make some really obscure motor vehicles in his youth, the Shed and Sofa particulary spring to mind.

I agree, Ed seems to know everything, which I somehow doubt he does. I'm very suspicious of some of their bargain buys too. There was one episode where they picked up a Boxster for something like a grand. A fluid change on the semi-auto box miraculously sorted out the problem with gear changes, which is why they got it cheap. Suppose it hadn't though? I bet a gearbox for a Porker is at least a few thousand quid and that would have been their profit up in smoke. ;)

I quite like it and Ed is da man mechanic wise, but yes Mike Brewer is a bit of a tool and takes his cheeky 2nd car sales chappy role too seriously. Apparently he is not as douchy as that in the real world.

As others have said if they added Ed's labour on top then they would never turn a profit.

There was some nice cars in the latest series on Discovery.

Another silly cheesy one is Strippers Cars for Cash, they are worse than Mike Brewer but funny walking stereotypes.

Note that this is a lot more safe for work than the programme title suggests. :(

    I enjoy the programme.

If I was selling a car and Mike Brewer turns up, I wouldn't budge on price!

Conversely, if I was buying one of their cars, I'd be haggling a lot harder than the punters on tv!
I've always wondered what those buyers feel once they see the programme their car is featured in - especially when see what profit was in it.

It's a made for TV reality show and as such really has no basis in fact.

The jobs they get to do even on non runners are really superficial, no shot gearboxes or broken piston rings with ruined bores!

Parts (even second hand ones) are generally pretty expensive but they always seem to find a low cost alternative and coupled with EC's charity mechanical work means they can always turn a profit. <rolls eyes>

Sadly you are correct but as a consolation you do get to laugh at the turkey's rectums in the show.

I like it, not a restoration but enough so that you wouldn't need to be too guarded about selling it on.

I'd love to have those sorts of workshop facilities.

  • Very much like this. Favs include the Jensen Interceptor and Lamborghini Uracco episodes.

I too had a dislike of Mike Brewer until I saw his Bravo November Chinook doc. An incredible story indeed. They're just making tv programmes to a formula.

  • It's seems there is a common opinion on Mike. I'm a bit 50/50 with him, I can imagine Edd being a genuinely nice guy off the Camera, but I think Mike does "Ham it up a bit".

I suppose he has had to be a bit ruthless to become a successful "Wheeler Dealer". I'm sure he respects Edd's Genius though.

    @ESBlonde

Those are good, I've had a glimpse of those before. Eccentric? Nahhhhhhhh. :-)

    @mudslide73

I love Jensen Interceptors and I really liked the Fiat Dino they had on, beautiful cars.

Yeah, I agree totally.  I too have little interest in cars - basically they are boxes to get me from A to B and home.

Totally agree . . . Ed China top bloke, Mike Brewer, complete twat . . typical Car Salesman. Hmmm that's a little unfair but it's how I perceive a car salesman. That said i abolutely love the show. Mike Brewer did a series without Ed China, similar concept, and it was utter tosh . . Eds the Brains in that show.
Id just like to point out that, despite all the video and DNA evidence, it genuinely wasn't me, your Honour  !
