I've just had my 50th and wanted to do the same. However, against my wishes, Mrs.K and friends conspired and thew me a surprise do and I have to say, it was lovely.

At the end of the day, mark the occasion the way that you want to, but trust your love ones too should they want to do something nice for you.

Happy Birthday - and I echo what everyone else has said - my birthday was on the 11th - my 40th is next year, and like you, most of the time I just want to potter around, enjoy the family or go out for a meal - but no big celebration, just a pleasant day on my terms. Perfectly normal unless the majority of us are odd balls  )
