Winamp users lament

What's Hot
As of next month AOL will be closing the website, stopping the services, and taking down the .exe from the interwebs...

So Winamp will be no more after nearly 16 years of music-ness.

16 years is no age :(

A dirge for Winamp the doubly dead in that she died so young.

I have downloaded a copy of 5.66 so I can at least have a copy of it burned on a CD in case I need to re-install later.

Winamp is the only player I've found that lets me order music the way I like. By Artist then by album (in release date, not alphabetically) then by track. Everything else seems to do one or the other.

And then it has such a simple interface that my grandmother could use it.

    But it's iTunes...

I really just want a music player... not an iTunes.

  • Hasn't been good since well before it was sold off imo.

However the original developers did go on to make reaper so it's all to the greater good in the end.

  • As an aside why does every player these days feel like it has to order my music into a library. I have a file system to do that.... jsut play the fucking songs.

I'm using v.2.95  -- my favourite.  And I like it cos it doesn't try to interfere with my life, it just plays my music.

Possible lifeline in rumoured Microsoft buyout.

Normally users would rail against MS buying a favoured program... but considering the previous owners were AOL I think that might not apply this time

  • I store my EllPees in any order I want, but I have to play the tracks in the order they come on the EllPee. Simples.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
