Speaker for P1800?

I'm thinking about building my first amp. The P1800 looks a good choice. There are many threads on here about people successfully building the P1800 kit, and I'd appreciate your words of wisdom on speakers. I'll probably go for a 1x12 combo (perhaps 2x10). What speakers would you recommend, and where is a good source? Prices I've seen on Ebay seem quite a bit higher than some of the prices mentioned here.

Can't really help as I just plugged my new P1800 straight into my marshall 8412 4x12. Would be interested to see what people recommend though.

Gotta be a Greenback. They pop up on here quite often, get a used one in good condition and it will already be broken in.

  • I have a pair of Vintage 30s in mine. Sounds great.

It's worth thinking about how loud you want it to be. If you plan to gig it, you might want moire sensitive speakers to get the most volume out of it (V30s, Alnico Blues). If it's purely for home use then less sensitive speakers will allow you to crank it more without blowing the neighbours into the next street.

  • Thanks for your suggestions. Sounds like Greenback fits the bill for me.

  • The answer is always a V30.

It's got to be an old g12h you won't regret it.
I've used a v30, thought it sounded good until I used the g12.
A 1x12 isn't loud enough to gig with imo, I use a 2x12 old slant back cab now, I've also got a 4x10 cab which is nice, they're small enough to pick up and don't take up loads of room.
    Hope that helps.
I've got a clip on you tube of my son playing through it.
search Greco egf1000 or handmade Joe Perry replica.
