Swapping routers?

I've just changed by broadband provider at work so I have a BT Business Hub going spare.

We have an aged BT Homehub at home so I wanted to try the Business Hub at home to see if it performs better.

Plugged it all in & the Broadband light is flashing green & we can't connect. Can't seem to open the hubs homepage either to change any settings that I might need to.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

    1) how did you access the business hub admin screen  at work (is it the same IP address as your home one?)

2)are they both the same type of "modem" bit within the router

    3) You cant just swap "hubs" becuase they will have an IP matched to the MAC address that BT use to see it,  however you should be able to access the Hub from the local LAN connection

just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't

  • 1) 192.168.1.254

    2) Wouldn't have a clue?

    3) Tried typing the address in (1) above into safari on my iPhone which was previously connected to the hub at work but it either says you're not connected to the internet (wireless on, on phone) or brings up a google search page (wireless off, on phone).

Do I need a wired connection from my laptop to the hub to set it up then?

Some hubs only let you log in to the admin screen wired - as "security" don't know if BT business is one that does, but worth a try.

Also to my knowledge while an ADSL modem will work on an ADSL2 or ADSL2+ line it wont give the speeds of the faster modems so do check what speed you get should you get it connected

Buuuut! If you're on say BT Infinity which is VDSL2 it might well not be compatable at all as it's a different IEEE standard... but I'm not sure about this

Oh, and I know it's handy... but turn off WPS if you have it... is easy to hack for me and I've only just started learning to do pen testing

Find out how to reset it back to factory defaults and start from scratch.
