Cover band folk, got any Mr Brightside cheats?

I used to cheat and retune my guitar to EADG#AE and fit a capo at 2nd fret (the capo helps with the bridge). We used to play in D. This keeps the 4th finger behind the pinky in the main chord shape which feels more natural to me - like a Cadd9 chord with the pinky up one fret.

For the bridge arpeggio, I'd fret a Dmaj7 triad on strings D,G & B with a B on low E, descending to A then open F# with the aid of a capo. Probably not correct but it sounded ok.

I forget exactly how I played the chorus but basically played the riff whilst the rhythm guitarist played power chords throughout.
