Sanding neck heel to fit body pocket

Ok so I have a body with a 55.5mm or thereabouts neck pocket and an unused neck with 57mm heel, how bad an idea is it to sand the sides of the heel to fit?
Or should I just cut my losses and buy the correct neck?

I would think routing the neck pocket would be easier and more accurate. I've sanded a neck before, but only when it was less than half a mil to remove. It's very hard to sand accurately and flat.

I would almost always go for the pocket, rather than the neck.

If I take from the pocket will I not still emd up with the neck overhanging the pocket when looking from the back?

Possibly. Something I'd not considered. Probably better off buying the correct neck then, unless it's a cheap neck in which case sand away :-)
