50th birthday present ideas

I'm invited to a friend's 50th birthday party next weekend, and feel I should get him something.

I'm shit at buying presents at the best of time, so trying to think of something for someone I basically just know from the pub is a nightmare!

He's booked a couple of bands in a hall and is laying on free drink, so showing up empty handed would be a bit crap.

He's in to mountain biking, beer, rock music and rugby. He's at Download this weekend. He's got his own IT company and used to be in the RAF. That's what I've got to go on!

Any ideas for a wee something? I doubt he's a wine guy but he might take a dram (I'll have to find out).

Whisky is always a good pressie. I live in the Speyside area so whisky is easy to get round here.
