Now that the Irish aren't using it, we could have the Punt.

So named because it rhymes with the Irish for banker.

The problem is that we don't see much of them so we don't know if they're fakes or not!

It's not legal tender. It's legal currency, which is not the same thing - they don't *have* to take it if they don't want to. This was clarified in the Banking Act 2009 I think, although it had always been the case.

Now I, along with many other Scots, simply keep a small amount of English banknotes for when we travel to England, it saves arguments. If I ever get one when I'm being paid for something I just put it in the 'holiday fund'.

If anyone in England has any Scottish notes they want to get rid of, I'll be happy to take them off your hands at a reasonable exchange rate ;).

Again I agree with Fret - first thing I thought of was The Groat.

It's time to make the Groat Great.

I seem to remember that a few years ago a  major travel company were selling Scottish notes to American & Canadian travellers at a mark up over the rate for English notes as they seemed to assume that those buying wouldn't realise that English notes could be used in Scotland.
