Which car polish?

What's Hot
breakstuffbreakstuff Frets: 10413
While in pretty good nick for a thirteen year old car,the paintwork on my tornado red Golf could do with a bit of a spruce up.I got some wax polish last year (can't remember the make) but it's a pain in the arse to buff without leaving smears, especially in hot weather.Anyone got any recommendations for a decent polish, not too expensive and easy to apply and buff by hand?

  • The best thing to use wpuld be Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
It's a filler rather than a Polish and should sort the paint out! Top it off with some cheap wax from halfords and you should be good to go!

Has the paint gone a pinky colour or is it still red?

Autoglym will sort it out. I've used it for years.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

@shaunyshaun the paintwork on the top of the bumpers has faded slightly on top but I got some Autoglym paint restorer that should sort that.Just need a decent wax polish to put the shine back.

Thanks @Fretwired not used it before but that's one to consider.

  • The autoglym srp will do wonders then! The wax on top isn't necessary but it will protect it a bit from the elements!

I use Collinite polish on our car a couple of times a year. Easy to put on and buffs off without too much effort. It gives a nice glossy finish and rain just beads up and rolls off. It's quite cheap compared to a lot of the carnauba waxes too. The rest of the time I just use Zipwax car shampoo.

I use Autoglym on my bikes and cars.
    It is terrific.

But polishing is down to process and technique and prep is everything.
I was and dry the car in sections, to avoid water marks.
I also don't work in direct sunlight, again to avoid water marks.

Having a good cleaner helps- I use SDoc100, which is essentially magic in a bottle.

Meguiars or any Carnuba wax. The effort is worth it. A cheap electric buffer makes quick work of big areas.

I use Harley Wax on the Lotus, very impressed with the results, but it's very expensive at £22 a tin.

The easiest car polish I've ever used which gave a good finish, was BMW's own. It was like a clear liquid, you could only buy it from BMW dealers, but it wasn't too dear.

EDIT: It's now £22 a tin, so maybe not!

I'd recommend going over the car with a clay bar kit. gets rid of the dirt you don't see but the paint work gleams when it's finished

I know the country voted to leave, but c'mon lets not take the piss out of pigeon english just yet.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Never mind a clay bar, I bought one, and found that vinegar was just as good.

Just remembered that Turtle Wax is pretty good polish, but it does leave white powder in your crevices.
