Brexit - how come the NI people had a say?

What's Hot
Pardon me for asking, but if we were voting on Britain's exit from the EU, why did the Northern Irelanders get a say?

We weren't voting on Great Britain's exit from the EU despite the annoying term 'Brexit'. We were voting on the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland's withdrawal from the EU.

Usually just the United Kingdom or UK for short - I guess UKexit wasn't as catchy as Brexit ... :-)

Yes, I may have over-reacted there but if it was a genuine question, then I despair.

Although how come Gibraltar? I wasn't previously aware of them being in the UK and how f****d will they be by Brexit?

Chris's next question will be 'How do I get four slices in two slice toaster'.

I like U-kex-it. It sounds an underwear mishap.

I think that the voting public would not have been so keen to get behind an undergarment accident.

Spain will get it back and get the EU to back Argentinian claims over the Falklands. Cameron could yet be right about WW3.

I'd piss the EU off by asking Putin round for tea and a little shootin' and finishin' over a few bottles of vodka. Junker would blow a fuse. Free trade deal with Russia ....

    Very.

That's why they voted by over 95% for Remain.

They were the first result to declare and when I saw it on the news with the numbers as 800 and something Leave and 95000 odd Remain, I thought someone had miscounted… then I saw it was Gibraltar.

I did wonder if Scotland might try to curry favour with Spain in order to allow Scotland to rejoin the EU by supporting a joint sovereignty agreement or something, but it now looks more like we might help them with whatever similar arrangement they need to stay in.

It also might be a possible solution for Northern Ireland. They're pretty screwed too - with more worrying possible consequences.

Well first of all I'd suggest you finish the sentence with a question mark.

I'd then suggest you do it two at a time.

@Chillidoggy, will you ever be able to handle toaster business on your own?

I suspect that Chillidoggy can get help from his other half if he needs any on toaster operation. The real reason behind the comment is that he thinks you are as easy to wind up as Emp Fab - see this thread

Sorry. I'd forgotten that there were as many toaster related threads on the forum as guitar threads. I simply hyperlinked the first off topic one from the search facility.
