Port is very nice and, I find, quite moreish.

Mrs Stoo thinks that I'm very amusing when drunk on port and trying to wrap Christmas presents.

Not had any for about 15 years. Far too easy to drink - I could easily finish a bottle in one sitting - so never buy it these days.
Was given a bottle for Christmas from a colleague - never really liked it before, but polished off the whole thing in one go.

And felt like death the next day...

Port is awesome, I had a great bottle that my sister in law bought me but can't remember the name. It had some kind of zorro like figure on the label.

I'm not much of a drinker but a good port is up there. I had some chocolate wine the other day, nicer than that sounds and quite port like. I have been to Porto where I drank some very cheap white port which was, well, pretty rough and I got drunk very quickly.

Always drink Port late so you fall asleep before you drink too much. Never drink it after a big boozy lunch, it goes down astonishingly well - did that once and travelled up a long escalator feet first...

Great stuff. All of it, even the cheap stuff.

Try Madeira, you'll like that as well.

Unlike whisky, which is rising in price steeply, you can get a very good port for not a lot of money, relatively speaking.

As has been said though, you can make yourself seriously ill on Port.

Ha ha, I listened to good advice (for once) and stopped at the first glass, mind you it was a huge stemmed beer glass!

  • Now put on the kettle, throw a spoon of brown sugar and a slice of orange into it and enjoy ;)
(Well maybe not at 10:36 am, but hey, its 5 o clock somewhere)

12 good quality sausages in a bowl. Cover in port. Leave for two days.

Cook sausages. Eat and drink rest of port.

    Excellent stuff.

I have liked port for well over a couple of decades, people buy me a bottle for xmas or when I've done a favour etc. I only have 4 bottles left!
Standard line in the local "I'll have a Grimsby" (small port).

Excellenty additive in cooking too, place large mushrooms upturned under the grill, fill the gills with port and place cheese (blue cheese is favourite) on top.
Add to stir fry beef or lamb to enliven the juices.
Keep a bottle handy for Keith Floyd style cooking too ;-)
