Hats

What's Hot
IamnobodyIamnobody Frets: 6944
I've spent two hours in the garden today and being a baldy I've returned inside looking rather red on top.

This is fairly unusual - I don't burn as rule but exposure of my shiny bonce to the sun is something I'm more bothered about now I'm a Dad with responsibilities etc.

I've never worn hats, I think I look silly in any style. However needs must so I'm looking at these...

I wondered where one might one find this type of thing on the High Street?

Also I'm open to ideas but wouldn't fancy a baseball cap style.

Will mainly be worn at home when doing jobs in the garden.

Loled - but surely that would be a Kangol bucket hat?

Somewhere like Millets would have it. Does Millets still exist?

Otherwise baseball all caps are ok and practical.

I I bought a Panama hat a couple of months ago, which actually looks reasonable - a rare feat! Every opportunity I've had to wear it so far it's rained...

I'm a keen hattist,  currently contemplating a bowler -  although not for the summer.
Outdoor,  camping supplies type places like Regatta or Go Outdoors or Towsure or Black's,  etc,  for stuff like those in the link.
Debenhams -  at least the bigger branches -  are good for hats.
Anything more exotic might be mail order but the Hat Man in Birmingham is okay.  A decent sized market will usually have a few hats floating about.  This time of year Primark,  TK Maxx,  etc,  will have summer hats.

I didn't think Millets existed anymore because the one near my work closed down.

But I just googled it to check and we have one local to home. I'm on my way there! Cheers

... and baseball caps not really much use in the summer. They help keep glare off your eyes and protect your bald spot but don't cover your neck and can be sweaty.

As I now shave my head twice a week I use an army cap thing bought from debenhams and   some really good sun cream.

  • don't listen to them, they are IMO the best sun hats, I have had mine for nearly 15 years now, I don't care how I look(which is a good thing:) )..

only problem I have is when wearing it I get people wanting to talk cricket, seriously, it is most annoying,

I'd love to wear a cowboy hat, David Rawlings style.

Think it would be strange in rural Scotland though.

If the desire becomes too strong, I'll just need to move to the states.

I got about ten boonie hats.  All camouflage of course because I am John Rambo.  Usually the crown rots out from the sun (Hard to believe really).  Just get a standard issue one cheap.  At least the quality will be there.

I do (& also live in Scotland).
I spent years doing field work in all weathers so a good hat became essential. I've got an Australian bushman hat. (like a cowboy hat, but with a lower crown). It's awesome.

Depends how big your head is
You can find cheap alternatives, but Tilley hats are better made, with a partial warranty if you lose them, and come in various sizes up to massive
Given the fact they last for decades, they are not expensive long term unless you lose them
I have one  (or 2 - I'm sure my old one  is in  some pile of junk somewhere from when we moved)

I've got an Aussie hat (made in Oz, probably not from an actual Aussie), had it for 20+ yrs it was black now faded to greyish brownish. Keeps the sun and the rain off. I get sun flash headaches so wear a hat a lot outdoors. Also got a Stetson for posh.

I've never really done this. The exception being Glastonbury 2010 as it was very hot with no shade.
