10 years in the cubes for anyone who hasn't seen it.

20 years if you liked the Stallone version.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Saw it at the cinema. Hated it. Grim and thoroughly unpleasant!

Grim and unpleasant is what made it perfect.

I was a massive Dredd fan having bought 2000ad for the first 8 years of publication. I always avoided the film as it was supposedly very violent and I'm not keen on that stuff. Anyway, saw the first 12 mins or so today and I did not like it at all. It was nothing like the comics. Bike all wrong, mega city just looked like America, people looked like Americans. It just wasn't Dredd. The Stallone film is a far better representation, even with all its flaws.

Agreed. The remake lacked any true Dreddness. Stallone was pretty well cast in the original imo. It's a long time since I've seen it but he kept the doe eyes under control and went with his granite faced hard man persona iirc..

Yeah, the Stallone film had poor acting, casting, scriptwriting and pretty much everything else, but in terms of the way it looked, it was absolutely perfect.

    +1

The look was great. The rest was dire.

And what they did to Fergee was unforgivable.

The Stallone film had a superb ABC warrior. Ian Dury was good casting for his role.

It's a good film. It's also very similar to The Raid, an Indonessian film, which is also well worth a viewing.

Actually The Raid is very similar to Dredd.

Dredd was written and completed first but released after The Raid. In fact the Dredd script was leaked online before The Raid went into pre-production!

Accusations were made that Dredd copied the Raid but if anything it was the other way round.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

10 years for the first offence, but a reduced 10 for the second.

    Concurrent or Consecutive.... Mmmmmm decisions!

Mega city one is in america, specifically its every east coast city merged into one.

I liked 2012 dedd, it looked somewhere between LA and a third world city. It looked like a realistic depiction of what a future dystopian hellhole would look like. Less skyskrapers more slums.

Agree that the 95 dredd had amazing production values though, for all its flaws. You can tell from the way its made and scored they were aiming for an epic tentpole sci fi franchise and it didnt quite qork.

Calm down @fretmeister... I didn't say that it was ripped off. I was just saying it's similar and worth a watch. Crikey!

I hope that the rumoured TV show becomes a reality. The universe would lend itself well to the genre. Having Karl Urban on board would be great but it's a role just about anyone can play. Except Emilia Clark maybe (but only because she's probably busy).
