Very much is use by younger people.

    It can be either.

It is akin to "erm" or clearing one's throat.

Andrew Strauss used to start too many answers to questions with "yeah-no" when he was ENgland captain.

It just seems to me to be one stage on from using "you know" ten times a second.

It's often used as a beat, while the speaker engages their thinking tackle to address the actual question. Actually.

I think context is everything. Either it's a stalling thing, equivalent to "err" before giving a proper answer.

Or.. it's "yeaaaah..no" as a response in itself, which means no in a vaguely sarcastic tone.

I've been told that "show us yer tits" can also mean hello, but with more emphasis
that said, I've never found the conversation from that point on to go particularly well..
maybe I should stop using it and try something else instead..

Usually just filler, similar to stuttering or saying "er"

Or it could mean an abbreviated version of "yeah, but no" commonly used by chavs. In English this phrase means "I understand you, but respectfully disagree".

I was wondering yesterday if it might also be "You know" in a regional accent. "Yer know?"

This, however, is still in line with the start-of-sentence-delimiter model.
