The British, we are a bit bonkers

Someone at work was in this years honours list. He didn't get the usual OBE/MBE/CBE, but he did get something with a rather bonkers title: 

Companion of the Order of the Bath

How many countries would come up with something as daft sounding as that and yet treat it with po faced dignity?

I did a quick check and there are a couple of other nutty sounding ones:

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath

The Most Noble Order of the Garter 

The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle

The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Sounds like something from Bill & Ted)

The Most Venerable Order of St John of Jerusalem

Us Brits are an eccentric bunch!

I don't know how, but someday I really want to be awarded that. I would make sure I include it whenever signing off any letters, emails, forum posts, and I'd even happily use up most of the character limit of text messages and twitter posts.

By having a "Most Excellent" order it suggests that someone has received a letter offering him "The Really Crap Order Of The British Empire".
