My take away from that chart is that folk music gives you cancer. Jazz too.

I suppose the reason the cancer rate amongst rappers is so low is that they all get murdered before Big C gets a look in.

They really shouldn't have joined the lines as the data isn't continuous

It's basically impossible to draw any kind of conclusion from that graph

Also, I won't believe that 51% of rappers are killed by homicide - the genre isn't old enough to take into account many natural causes

How do we interpret this for session guitarists?

I suspect it's being old that gives you cancer- that's true across the board. Since folk and jazz musicians apparently live longer, they're more likely to develop cancer.

Whay a load of shite, it's all about whether the genre was popular and age related ! Nothing to do with anything else.

They probably spend most of their time playing pop, maybe a bit of country or lite rock.... which, looking at the charts above, makes your life expectancy and likely cause of death as middle-of-the-road as the music.

It's clearly bogus, because the graph of US male and female life expectancy relates to time along the bottom axis, so the genres and musician lines have just been pasted on… but it's quite funny.

Reminded me of Goldie Lookin' Chain's "Guns don't kill people - rappers do" though :).

So folk musicians only actually play for like 4 years before they die, assuming they start at around 55?
