There have indeed been some recent changes - we changed the text editor to one we made ourselves to fix a number of the problems with the previous editor.
The emoticons aren't working properly yet.
There are two separate batches of emotions.
- The first you can access from the toolbar (the smiley face). That's a cut-down set and they're inconsistently designed. We'd like to get those completed to our consistent "fretface" design.
- The second set are available from the similar icon at the top right corner of the text box. That's the full set, but you can only automatically embed them in the text box if you first switch to "source" view (the </> icon on the toolbar) *OR* you can just type them in with characters. If you type the colon character : and then the next character that generates the emoticon you want, you'll get a little pop-up box within the text editor that shows you 5 options. Of course, you need to know the text equivalent of the smiley that you want to be able to do that.
Embedding media should be easier in the new editor. For example, here's a YT clip.Just cope the share code from YT and paste it into the text box - no other code/controls are needed.
There may well be inconsistencies between OSes, browsers, platforms (etc), but that was done on a PC running Win10 & Chrome.
I tried to embed this link:

But, when I paste the URL in the "Attach image/file" tool it doesn't work. I ended up manually creating the <img src=...> tag in HTML view. Is it because the URL doesn't end in ".jpg" ?

There's a small trick which I've just discovered - add "?test=x.jpg" to the end of the URL and paste it in.
This is good info for when I try to fix the damn thing.
I ask, because I've found that to be a pita too - and ended up using the img src tags too.

Also having trouble posting images:
I've found that when I paste the image code into the box, there's no 'submit' option (or any other button that would allow me to add the image to the comment.)
If I hit return, the comment is posted without the image. To get the image to stay in the comment, I've found hitting space works, but then the image is always at the start of the post, rather than where the cursor was. I then have to cut and paste to get the image to stay where I want it.
I've used different image sources, so it's not that. Using I.E.
Unfortunately, determining whether it's a valid image or not is its Achilles' Heel. I'm trying to figure out a way to fix that.

When I open the editor the original URL has been replaced by image tags.
This means I have to copy all the YT clip URLS into notepad and manually paste then back in after the edit (?)
Not that its a huge issue, but if I post a comment on my iPad and want to add another paragraph by hitting enter twice, the starting letter is not capitalised. However, if I then backspace to an empty line, it automatically puts the SHIFT on ready to create a capital letter.
As I say, not a problem in the grand scheme of things, but sometimes innocuous things like this may hint at other underlying stuff, so made sense to tell you :-)
