anyone into flyfishing?

there's a venue just down the road from us that looks pretty good value and I've always fancied having a go at this. Any good or recommended books on the topic?

See if your local venue has someone onsite, or regular who can show you the basics, of casting. It's a lot easier to pick you if someone can point you in the right direction, rather than trying to learn from a book.

I haven't fly-fished in years, but have a few flies you're more than welcome to if you would like them.

thanks mike, I may take you up on that. Though I picked up a load of vintage fly fishing tackle a looooong time ago which has a load of flies in it. No idea what's what in there, but they're all really good for catching fingers...

    Sure, no probs.

Looking on the bookshelf, I have a book which you can have if you'd like. It covers more than just fly-fishing, but has quite a good section on it.

we do have a couple of fishing books knocking around (being 2nd hand book dealers we generally have books on most subjects), if you can tell me what it's called I may already have it.

as I understand it, the book never existed but they wrote and published it after they saw the success of the advert. You couldn't make shit like that up...

I've never done it but I too want to give it a go. Looks a splendid way to spend an afternoon.

Having my first go in a couple of weeks with some of the lads from work. Then after that we're off sea fishing.

Everything caught will be cooked on fire and eaten. Proper man day.

  • I've been a keen flyfisher for many years and have fished all over Scotland in that time.

I would heartily recommend getting a few casting lessons early doors.

Learning can be a frustrating business and being shown the basics can really make a big difference and get you fishing more effectively instead of hopelessly thrashing the water and scaring every fish for 10s and 10s of square metres of water.

Do you have tackle already or will you be borrowing?

If you tell me what type of fishing you'll be doing I can perhaps recommend some gear.

I'm also incidentally offloading some gear ATM, but don't wanna turn this into a spam thread.

    Tight lines,

    Paul.

friend of mine, his bro and dad were big into 'lake'  fly-fishing - they used to go to Tamar  for rainbows'  big'uns too (10lb + easy)

my dad was uber good fly,  lots of split canes, but that was 'river/stream'  stuff,  after brown trout
