We are all different, some people like playing guitars, some like collecting them. I sold a guitar last year and it puts my collection out of balance. I have a Les Paul which is my main guitar and two Rickenbackers that I use sometimes. I should really trade a Ric for a Les Paul. However I like my Rickenbackers even though I dont play them much.

If I were a touring musician I would have three identical Les Pauls. One to play, one on stage as a spare and a backup just in case one failed, broke, went AWOL.
This is my reasoning, I recently traded a Les Paul for a PRS CE24 as its a better match to my main squeeze a PRS CU22, it also handily has the exact same neck profile.
This is what I meant in another thread when I said it's totally different going from my Suhr to PRS. Suhr is 22 fret and a different kind of guitar. Sure I can still play the two, but I'd rather master one... the harmonic positions are different and the way they handle are different. That sort of thing.
Yep, now I have slightly different flavours of the same food.

  • I was always of the opinion that it was best to have two of everything to be pro or semi-pro. When I was gig-ready, this meant two guitars with humbuckers and two valve amps.

Nowadays, if I had the dough, I would have two LPs, two SGS, two Teles, two jazz boxes... the list would go on!

Well I have 4 electric guitars... I hope this doesn't make me more of a man... I'm not sure that would be helpful...

Maybe it helps that one is an Encore which is virtually unplayable, and another has no electronics or hardware attached (planned to do it up... then never got around to it)

If guitars were ten a penny
I'm quite sure that I'd have many
    Because guitars are considerably more
    sadly I have only four

I've got about 14 really but that didn't rhyme.

Everyone here seems to have at least 12 minimum.
    in a way, yes
because to have lots requires an assertive attitude  if your partner is not  so keen

I'm down to one electric guitar now. I have an acoustic that my son plays more than me to be honest. Surely it's all one really needs isn't

I back tracked through all posts since August 2013, added up all the NGD minus the sales in the Classifieds, then applied them to the total number of members discounting those with less than 10 frets.
    The numbers are heavily distorted by @HarrySeven and @Gassage. ;
I then invented a number and went with that.

Hehe... Rory is a good shout, indeed... for owning LOADS of guitars!!

He's known mostly for the 61 strat - but he owned and used (on record at least) loads of guitars. He'd pick the one for the sound and attack he needed. For electrics, there's Danelectros, Les Paul Juniors and Melody Makers, Tokai Talbos, Coral Sitars, goodness knows what else, as well as several different Strats and Teles all over his records. He used the 61 strat live because that's the rory "icon", but often another strat (invariably one with a maple board) got used on record because it sounded better.

He kept buying guitars because... well... he just loved guitars.

I was a bit of a Rory fan, much of my attitude towards owning guitars (and several of the makes/models I own) comes from him... the more the merrier, they're all different, and you never know when you'll want to play a different one.

I'm with you. I like the cut of your jib.

6 strokes of the Dragon Cane followed by 12 lashes of the tawse and Alistair will surrender even to a 1952 Telecaster. Throw in a CB6000 for a month and I can get an amp too.

I've got 6 electrics but, if I'm honest, I only play 2 of them, though never at the same time.

I have 97 vintage guitars that I have in a vault so no-one can see them, touch them, hear them or play them. Only joking of course, but those people do exist.............greedy bastards

I have a fair few keepers, all of which I adore in their own way , and most of which I made and are fairly high end stuff .
Occasionally a cheapie walks into my life that is a lot of fun.
This week it's this silly thing: a Squier hello Kitty strat , and it plays great and sounds mental (especially after I swapped out the elecs and gave the insides some screening paint)

Many guitars have a re-sale value. Some you'll never want to sell.
