Hmmm...what shall I do with this neck?

What's Hot
Found an old Hofner neck whilst moving some stuff around. Just wondering what to do with it...feels like a good time for a summer project!

Is that a genuine unfinished factory neck?

If so build a Hofner, of course!

Does it have a truss rod? Some of the early ones didn't, and now can't be played

Actually, if the deep heel was removed, I was wondering if it would work on a solidbody...

Yes - it would be a bit of an awkward-sized solid since it would still need a 14th-fret neck join, but the original Hofner Colorama (single-cut) models are like that.

So that's what I would probably do. It would give you the option of doing something you wouldn't want to mod an original for, like fit it with a trem or different pickups.

I don't think I have (unusually for me) any 'spare' bodies or blanks knocking about...just wondering what style body (not necessarily in-keeping or traditionally associated with that neck design) might work...

here you go.   It has a few flaws.... a bit of sand through on the top, tape lines.   and some idiot who shall remain nameless has routed a great big hole in the back, not as neatly as it could be.

Okay, that last one was me.... I have had this almost as long as I have been building.  it did have 60's german newspaper shoved inside when i got it

I think with binding to match the body it could be made to work still.

i also have an old verithin bass neck

but the fretboard is non original and truss rod buggered so its since come off - i saved the  old inlays though
