Transferring a fret marker design onto Mother of pearl?

Is there a good way to do this? I want to have a go at some chinese symbols but I haven't figured out a good way to get ther design onto the MoP yet.

I make paper copies of my design, so I don't wreck the original. Then I carefully cut each piece out of paper with a scalpel, and then use spray glue (like the stuff you use to mount photos) to stick the paper templates to the MOP. You can get it off OK after you've cut the shape out.
