Painting swamp ash?

Looking at my first partscaster build and there's a nice looking swamp ash guitar build body on ebay for not much money. Would swamp ash need much grain filling before I paint it?

My Strat is Guitarbuild and Swamp Ash, I purposely painted it without any grain filler and the grain shows through...a lot, which I think is great, so having never tried a truly solid finish, gut feeling suggests grain filling would be necessary......

Either or, as Paul says. I wanted a glass finish on my Tele so it needed 2 applications. I do like the look of them without too. Your choice really.
