Just curious who night know a 'friend of a friend' of murky underworld types that could, if required, locate such an item - say, in the event of WW3 or an invasion etc.

What's the timeframe, and what kind of gun? There are valid reasons for owning a gun, a small minority of people need a gun for their job (eg pest control, farming) and there's obviously a bunch of criteria to be met, but its not impossible to legitimately buy and own a gun.

Know a fella who's currently in jail for firearms (along with some, a, b and c's). Reckoned you could get them used about £1000. Brand new still in the box unopened green labelled about 3-4k.

Yep, anyone can get a gun. It's not hard. In certain areas.

For the record, I don't like handling guns. I have (legally), I just don't like doing it.

but this had made me recall how uncomfortable I felt when someone I barely knew showed me their (illegal, obv) Colt 1911 that they were very proud of. It wasn't loaded st the time but he said he had rounds :-/

I grew up in a rural area. I can think of at least 10 families with a shotgun or rifle. 

I also lived in Manchester for a while, the availability of guns there was terrifying.

Yes. My father has legally held shotguns. We live on a small holding so they are used for pest control...and for wielding maniacally shouting "Get Orf Mi Laaaaand!!!"

i can get, Olympic shooting rifles, sniper rifle, 9mm hand guns and a Ak47. 
All fully functional and with ammo. 

Gf brother in law is a collector, he's got em in his cellar.

I have one- it's at my Mum's in a locked case. A Webley/Scott 410 of some ancient vintage with a lovely burr walnut stock. But then I'm from Shropshire

Very true. I trained with a group of guys from Longsight, Moss Side and Gorton- they were much more streetwise than I was: it was a real eye opener after growing up in rural Scotland.
