  • I've got one ready to go, this is a concept I've kind of had a handle on for long time.   Consider The Beatles "Revolution #9", whatever that is on "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" right after "Lily White Lillith"  by Genesis, or  "On The Run' from Pink Floyds "Dark Side of the Moon".  Not saying my entry is going to sound like any of these but there you go.

Yeah you see I don't feel I could do anything even remotely like that, from both of my musical backgrounds (classical piano and garage ish rock) it's all about structure and then knowing when to beak the rules - having no rules at all is just too much for me to handle!
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Any ideas (a) what the problem is?  (b) how to solve?

FWIW I am following rules when I compose the loops, it is just a different set of rules to when I play jazz, which is a different set of rules when I'm playing rockabilly ... and so on.

Looping, for me, is a bit of an investigation in microtonality.
Way back in the 90's I got heavily into exotic scale stuff- I was listening to Satriani's 'Not of this Earth', lots of Bill Frisell, David Torn, Mahavishnu Orchestra and King Crimson, as well as traditional Arabic and Indian Music.
I take some of the stuff I learned at that point and try to condense it into short (under 30 second) pieces of music.

  • Just sent mine in.  It doesn't sound much like guitars but is in fact just 3 tracks of a Les Paul going through a Zoom G1Xon pedal and a Fender Mustang modelling amp.  One guitar track is using the A9 preset on the G1Xon, which makes a guitar sound like synth voices, which I then reversed so the track plays backwards.  I added another track using the H8 preset.  I don't recall what the Mustang settings were for each, or what the other guitar track setting was.  Between the effects on the pedal and the amp and the reversed track it sounds like it's all synth.

    It's not a competition.

Warning: the feedback loop gets a bit loud at the end.

  • After a herculean effort to sit myself down in front of a computer, I managed to knock together the basis of a tune this afternoon. It was mainly 'flinging paint at the canvas' (I've always been a bit of a musical Pollock ;) ) but I've managed to mould it into some semblance of the original idea.

I've got a week now to get the mix together and polish it up but I have an entry at last.

  • Looking forward to hearing these and taking part as a listener only as I'm not entering - am interested to hear what it all means

  • So the second attempt is done, now I'm not sure which goes in! I shall deliberate and probably make a decision based on not making a decision soon enough.

So the second attempt is done...
That reminds me:  @Antique_Guitars of the two I emailed it's the last one, the shorter version which is the final mix. :)
