Clive Brown refin '52 Tele

I have had a couple of Clive Brown early 52RI refins. They look and feel just as you would hope. But they sound like 52RIs. Not like the real thing. 
I have owned a fair few vintage guitars and it is a little scary everytime you come to buy one. There is something about the cost, the risk, the sometimes odd people that deal in them. 
I just tend to find some bits that are easy to take apart and see if they pass the sniff test. Not even Clive Brown can fake 'old smell'. I then plug 'em in. If they smell like heck and make a valve amp wet itself; I figure it is probably good to go.
