.....The first guitar I ever played when I was 7 years old!!

I say played...I essentially just strummed the open strings and heard this glorious racket coming out of a solid state 'Poker' amp, it was the first electric guitar I ever saw and held up close and it ignited the spark for sure!

It belonged to my uncle, he got it out of the Kays catalogue. He came round today after taking it to a boot sale where it didn't sell - so I bought it as a memento.

Ladies and Gents, I give you the Marlin Slammer! :-)

  • I wanted one of those more than anything when I was about 10 and perusing the Kay's catalog.

Ah yes, I spent many a cold, dark night in deepest Herefordshire, with a Kay's catalogue trying to spot those little black triangles.... ;-)

What was the difference between that and a Sidewinder?

Yes. That was the case brought by the Noise Abatement Society against Marlin Ltd.

That large fish at the twelfth fret remains a design classic.

As for the Kays catalogue, the Marlin I still chuckle at was one described as a 'state of the art' guitar, circa 1986/7. It had the S/S/H config, some non Floyd industrial locking vibrato job, and a pointy headstock.

All in all 'state of the art' as in it was designed by a  piss artist in a right state. .

That's awesome. I still have mine somewhere. It came in a clear plastic "soft case"!

I had exactly the same guitar, same red finish. Absolute shocker of a guitar!

  • My first guitar was a red Marlin Sidewinder! Heavy, wouldn't stay in tune and squealed at the slightest hint of overdrive. Wish I still had it!
