Tom Anderson Bulldog price query

What's Hot
Hi there, I'm looking at buying a bulldog which I've seen and just wondered what the second hand value should be?

    Hard to say.
They're aren't many about but Anderson's suffer from savage depreciation.
But they stopped making them because Gibson threatened to sue, so in theory they should be worth more due to rarity.

Conventional used guitar pricing wisdom is around 60% of the new price- so a £3k guitar would be worth £1800 or so.
But it is an Anderson so it might be worth less.
But it is an Bulldog so it might be worth a bit more.

    Didn't know about that.

It seems Gibson's litigators are challenged more than their guitar makers.

    Yeah they failed with PRS.
I am guessing here but I  imagine Tom simply couldn't afford to mount a defence.

They now have a model called a Bobcat has 2 or 3 knobs rather than 4.

Looked at 2 or 3 of these a few months back.  I was only interested in a light one with a trem.  Unfortunately missed out on one that looked good on(iirc) Reverb.  I'd say I expected to pay somewhere between £2,100 and £2,500 on a private deal:.  World Guitars had a used one at around £2,900 (£2,999?)  but it stuck for a while at that.

All the ones I saw seemed to be in close to mint condition, which would obviously be reflected in the price.

Only ones I've seen have been around £2-3k.

Yep, Gibson only go after small fish. Anderson isn't the only one to have gotten cease & desists but anyone with enough capital to hire a legal team is not on their hitlist.

Subject to condition and a private sale then somewhere around 2K is about right - I dare say the buyers wants to pay less and the seller more - but if clean and no fret issue - case and coa then around 2K ish

I think the issue with Gibson and court threats is that small firms will just roll over and drop the model - they only make a few a year any way - Anderson build around 800 guitars a year, so chances are that will equate to less than 50 Bulldogs - The profit on that is less than a phone call to a top lawyer to defend this case - Hence Gibson win just by issuing the threat - PRS could afford to take Gibson to task on it - most others can't
