Shreds so hard on acoustic too.

The only thing good about that is he avoided feedback. Overdrive can sounds good on acoustic when it's light and subtle, like The White Stripes playing A Martyr For My Love For You live at Bonaroo (around 2 mins in).

If I could ask JM one question it would be...

    Who are you?

I don't think I've ever heard any of his stuff.
When I bought 3 or 4 guitar magazines every month in the 90s he was usually in at least one of them, like a grunge Joe Bonamassa.

    3 or 4 mags a month?
It's a wonder you had any money left over for guitars & amps.

Next artist: Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine?
Buy 100 pedals and turn them all on. Play through a cranked marshall stack.
Get an offset and abuse it with tape in all possible places you can. After this pick a chord, any chord, it doesn't matter due to the level of effects all over the guitar. After strumming grab the arm of the vibrato unit and yank on it like sailor trying to steer a rudder in a storm
Only one Marshall? I'm sure he had three on stage at the T&C club when I endured saw them back in the day. I'm sure my eyeballs were bruised after that gig from them buffeting of air from the stage... ludicruous.

Solid piece, Jef. A suggestion for a future one... Neil Finn.
