Duncan Designed Strat pickups

Are these considered to be better than the stock pickups you'd get in a Squier? They're stock on the Vintage Modified series...

I think the Duncans have alnico magnets rather then the ceramics you normally get in a cheap Squier, so they'd certainly sound different. Ceramics tend to sound grittier and harsher.
