Actually, the real reason I couldn't get on with it was probably the neck, which just felt weird, but I did also think that the E2 looked a bit 'coffee table'. It was a toss-up in the shop between this and the Casino anyway.

Here's my 2001 reissue;

I'd never played one until this arrived via Ebay a couple of years ago. Echoing other comments above, it's the most comfortable guitar to play standing up. The balance and position of the neck when on a strap is amazing.
However, I still have trouble convincing people it's a 'classic' 50s design - most can't get over the 'metal' image. A non-guitarist mate who visited last week looked at it and said "is that from your Glam-rock days?....."

But something was wrong with. Was beautiful though.....
PS...seems like it is time for me to check out the "how to post pics" topic again...... :-/
Shortly after I got it I replaced the pickups with SD alnico IIs. It's a bit of an odd combo - relatively soft and dark medium output pickups in a mahogany body - but I love how it sounds because you can get a bit more gain and brightness from the amp. It never gets shrill, and single notes higher up the neck have body to them, useful in a one guitar band. Riffing on the thick strings is fun too, the lows are kinda spongy and thick without being flabby or boomy.
Stylistically, I love how everyone thinks it's a metal guitar, then I get up on stage and do something else.

I find the shape quite comfy. Would love a Lzzy Hale one, just hesitated too long when DV247 blew them out at £899 last year. :-(
