NGD: Tom Murphy content

What's Hot
I was very extravagant at the weekend and splashed out on this 2014 beauty. It sounds as good as it looks. Special thanks are due to Mrs Fretfinder who tolerates my incessant gassing without question and on this occasion even took the readies out if her account so I could pay for it!

Looks great.... I've always loved that he puts the little TM signature in the cracks in the nitro finish which a lot of people don't know about .. :)

Very nice. I don't normally like as red a burst as that but it's very pretty.

Why the split in the top? Down towards the strap button. Is that an aging 'feature'?

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

I don't normally like the washed cherry finish either but thought this one was quite nice. Yes the split top is an ageing feature and you can clearly see it's been done deliberately, a bit weird perhaps but hey ho.

It's too early to say if this one is a keeper but I will enjoy being the caretaker for a while and seeing how it goes. It will be gigged a week Saturday which I think is always a good test.

Sweet - that's one of the nicest cherrybursts I've seen.

  • I always seem to prefer a more washed out or lemony burst too, but when cherry is done right, like here, it just looks fantastic.

Don't like cherrybursts but that one shows that 99% of them aren't being done quite right I guess, just the right amount of graduation, not too deep a cheery, not too blingy a flame, etc, etc. lovely.

  • Sure it a great guitar but I still don't understand the relic idea even when done by Tom Murphy all the lacquer checking bits broken away round the inside of the binding splitting the top but then the pickup surrounds and some other bits look barely scuffed with a bit of wire wool.

most relics don't do it for me if that was an unmolested cheery Sunburst it would have me far more than the aged version.

But out as they say each to their own and it's still a nice guitar

Me too.  Is it the case that all washed out lemon bursts began life as cherry bursts which faded over the years?

Hope you kept the receipt looks like you have a small crack developing in the top near the binding.
